Failure at ZAGS

Well, we were not able to get Liam's birth certificate yesterday.

It turns out that we need our marriage certificate to be "apostilled."  Basically that means we need an original copy with an internationally recognized notary.  In order to get this Beth's mother will have to go to the same courthouse that we received the certificate in Georiga, and not only get another certificate but have it apostilled and rushed to Moscow.

We hope to have all of this finished and his birth certificate in hand by July 9.  If it's a month after his birth there will be slight fine, but it's good to know that there is no major rush.

  1. Ah... sounds, how do say? Ah yes. French. :)

Sorry to hear you have these hassles. In related news, where in GA? I'm from Marietta.

  2. Haha! Yeah, it really was a letdown. We were expecting to be waiting in a line for hours-- so when we got there and only had to wait a couple minutes, we knew we couldn't be that fortunate without having some problem mess all our luck up. :-)

Small world! Beth was born and lived in Snellville all of her life (not too far from Marietta). I'm from Toccoa, (a small town up in north GA), but we lived in Snellville after we were married. That's really cool!

  3. Sorry that happened to you. When our daughter was born in St. Petersburg 5 years ago, Clint wrote out a document with all the procedures that needed to be done to get all the documents in order. (including the very important apostilled marriage certificate) For a while this document traveled around our pregnant people, but I guess it didn't make it to you. If you want, he could still send it to you for the rest of the process. Funny thing....at ZAGS they told us it would be much easier if you just say you are not married. If you INSIST on saying you are married, you have to PROVE it. Gotta love it!!

  4. WE did have to pay the fine, by the way, because we also didn't know about the one month time limit. It was all such a learning experience...that's why Clint wrote out a document to save others our pain.

  5. It's all good-- we probably should have been more assertive in asking teammates for info. It was an adventure though, and fun (if not stressful at times) trying to figure things out. Things have definitely been a learning experience. :-) We would love the document-- we are nervous we're missing something.

    Thanks so much! :-)
